Hemophilia Treatment
Hemophilia Treatment focuses on replacing the missing clotting factors to prevent or control bleeding episodes. It is a lifelong, inherited bleeding disorder where blood doesn’t clot properly. Treatment includes regular infusions of clotting factor concentrates, either on demand or as preventive therapy. Factor Replacement Therapy – Involves IV infusions of clotting factor VIII (for Hemophilia A) or IX (for Hemophilia B) to prevent or stop bleeding.
Non-factor Therapies – Includes newer drugs like emicizumab that help the blood to clot properly in patients with inhibitors to factor therapy.
Diagnosis involves a combination of blood tests like APTT, PT, and specific clotting factor assays. Genetic testing is done to identify the type and mutation. These tests confirm hemophilia and help in determining severity and treatment plans.
